British Champion Jacob Aagaard explains the rules of attack (the exploitation of a dynamic advantage) in an accessible and entertaining style. This groundbreaking work is well balanced between easy-to-understand examples, exercises, and in-depth analysis. Five years in the making, this book will surely not let you down. Volume I tries to put all the pieces into action, momentum, color schemes, strengths and weaknesses, evolution / revolution.

The old masters referred only to the static characteristics of the position rules.

However, these are not enough to explain the fundamentals of chess. The problem is that chess, like other sciences, has undergone a dynamic revolution, but chess literature does not yet reflect this. In volume II, Aagaard explains the main rules of attack (the exploitation of a dynamic advantage), balanced between understandable examples, and in-depth analysis.

Five years in the making, this book is about weak kings, the sacrifices, attacking several minor themes, the intuitive sacrifices, castling front, the modern hunt for the king, and lasting initiative.

English Chess Federation Book of the Year 2010.

These books are the first in-depth examination of the nature of dynamics in chess, and the principles outlined in this book are relevant to every game of chess played. In vivid language, without being surprised, Aagaard explains how the best players in the world attack.
The Attacking Manual 1 (2nd edition): 264pg 2008.
The Attacking Manual 2: 460pg January 2010.

"The pleasure of reading"

GM Lubomir Kavalek, Huffinton Post.

Interesting ideas jump off the page in this is attractive material at its best ... This is an excellent two-volume set - and that's not just my opinion; they have recently been the joint recipients of the LEC Book of the Year. Prize. With good reason it can be considered the flagships of quality chess productions. "

Sean Marsh, the chess magazine article in "The Best Chess Books of 2010"

"Published in the usual excellent quality Chess format of ... full of lengthy analysis and instructive explanations ... a very subtle book, full of thoughtful considerations."

Arne Moll, ChessVibes (full review)

"With the publication of volume 2, the author completes a project that has taken him seven years to complete, and as he writes," they fulfill a personal ambition. "These complete volumes are one of the few that can compare favorably with the Dvoretsky manuals. This is a volume intended for the serious student. An excellent innovation is the provision of study positions before the main body of the text discusses the ones that the reader will get the most out of their efforts. But the book can also be enjoyed as a wonderful collection of attacking games and positions. The design and presentation is excellent. "

Ray Edwards, Farrand Julian, Friedgood David, the ECF judges who selected the Attack Manual 1 and 2 as their Year Book

"The number of different books published in the chess game is enormous ... Unfortunately some of these are dedicated to attacking the king who seems to be a kind of stranger. The most ambitious approach to the subject is the two volume series by GM Jacob Aagaard, Manual Attack 1 and Manual Attack 2.

It may seem a bit strange to see new editions [of attacking Manual 1] so soon. Normal practice is to wait for the spin to sell and then let some time pass, but here GM Aagaard, one of the co-owners of the Quality Chess publisher, was not satisfied with the physical qualities of the books (the provision and types of link) and some in the first volume. Many readers may not have noticed these shortcomings, but Aaagard, a well-regarded author who views the Attack 1 and 2 manuals as his best work, is unacceptable. The first volume, Attack Manual 1, now has a more user-friendly composition with wide margins at the top and bottom, exceptionally good binding that allows the book to stay open by itself when studying and no more typos. Attacking a sixty page Manual is also longer than the first edition.

These books can be warmly recommended to players from 2000 to 2500. "

IM John Donaldson

"A great attack manual was produced.

Aagaard's great strength as an author has always been the usefulness of his practical examples. Few chess authors do a better job than him of finding just the right example, exercise, or game to illustrate a given point. "
