Chess Endings for the Practical Player

Chess Endings for the Practical Player by Ludek Pachman

A very good book. Explain all endings simply and clearly. Start with the kills to the king alone (bishop and knight mate and mate with king and two knights against king and pawn). Continue with game ends only with figures: queen against minor pieces, queen against tower, tower against bishop, tower against horse, etc.

It has a complete chapter on figures against pawns: queen against a pawn, rook against one or more pawns, bishop against pawns and knight against pawns.

The following chapters are devoted to each type of ending: pawn endings, checkers endings, rook endings, bishop endings, horse endings, bishop versus horse endings, rook ends against minor piece.

In short, an excellent book, very complete, simple and highly recommended as a reference book.
